Southgate City – Burnaby

Back in 2011, developer Ledingham McAllister bought the old Safeway distribution centre and dairy plant with an ambitious vision in mind. It isn’t often that a fully masterplanned development like Southgate City comes to a major city like Burnaby. This new condo development will become an integral part of the skyline in South Burnaby. As envisioned, Southgate City will include up to 20 condo towers of between 24 and 46 storeys in height, and a variety of low- and mid-rise buildings, all of which combined will consist of about 6,400 residential housing units that will support a population of 20,000 people. The pedestrian- and public-transit oriented development is planned around a five-acre central park that will serve as the Southgate City’s core feature.

The 60-acre development also includes numerous smaller parks, creek-side greenways and open areas, all of which are designed to help foster interconnection between all of its residential and commercial elements. This planned interconnectedness also includes easy access to the rest of Burnaby, and greater Vancouver, via road upgrade connections, pedestrian/bicycling paths, and its proximity to the Edmonds Skyway Station. Proposed commercial ventures include a gourmet grocer, cafés, community shops and restaurants. A new community centre is also included in the plans. The final result will be a stunning community developed from the ground up.

Southgate City will rapidly become one of the most exciting places to live in all of the lower mainland.

With the first building, Precedence, starting sales soon; home buyers will have the opportunity to secure their view of what will become the definition of master planning. Residents will be able to wake up and look out to the green space, fountains, and inviting public spaces. Driving to the hottest restaurants and shops will be a thing of the past with the best that Burnaby has to offer just steps away.

What sets Southgate City apart from other developments is the attention to detail put into every aspect of the design. There are plenty of new condo developments to see in Burnaby and surrounding areas but few, if any, offer the total and complete lifestyle that Southgate City will offer. A new community centre is just one part of the plan that aims to provide residents with a superior living experience in the heart of South Burnaby.

This will undoubtedly be one of the most exciting, inspirational, and popular new condo developments in Burnaby and the entire lower mainland. Stay tuned for more news and developments about Southgate City as construction moves ahead.

Detection Of Backdating The System Clock In MacOS

by Oleg Skulkin & Igor Mikhaylov Recently we received a good question from one of our DFIR mates: “How can one detect backdating of the system clock forensicating macOS?”. This is a really good question, at least for us, so we decided to research it. If we are talking about Windows system clock backdating there are a lot of information to help, for example, this SANS white paper by Xiaoxi Fan, but there is nothing about macOS. Let’s start from macOS timestamps as they are very interesting and have a lot of evidentiary value. Let’s start from running mdls command on a sample file. Read More

2018 Cressey Sports Performance Collegiate Elite Baseball Development Program

Registration is now open for the 2018 Cressey Sports Performance Collegiate Elite Baseball Development Program. This event takes place at our Hudson, MA facility, and runs from 6/4/18 through 8/11/18.

During last year's offering, we had pitchers move to Massachusetts from eleven different states (plus Australia!). This summer, we anticipate another awesome collection of motivated athletes who'll push each other to get better in conjunction with the same training opportunities and expertise we provide to our professional athletes.

This program is a good fit for pitchers who need to prioritize development over just getting innings or exposure. In other words, it's a suitable replacement for those who still need to throw, but also need to gain 20 pounds, learn a new pitch, sort out old aches and pains, or improve their mobility.

Each athlete will begin with a thorough initial movement and pitching assessment that will set the stage for individualized strength and conditioning and throwing programs, respectively. These programs correspond to six days a week of training. Generally, four of the six training days per week are double sessions, with throwing in the morning and strength and conditioning in the afternoons. A typical training week would look like the following:

Monday: AM throwing, PM Strength and Conditioning
Tuesday: AM throwing, PM Strength and Conditioning
Wednesday: Late AM throwing and movement training (at field)
Thursday: AM throwing, PM Strength and Conditioning
Friday: AM throwing, PM Strength and Conditioning
Saturday: Optional AM Kinstretch (mobility) class, followed by throwing and movement training
Sunday: Off

In our throwing programs, we integrate weighted ball work, long toss, and bullpens (including video analysis). We'll integrate Rapsodo and Motus sleeves in these bullpens as well.

All the athletes will receive manual therapy with our licensed massage therapist weekly, and nutritional guidance throughout the program. Also to help with recovery, athletes have access to Fatigue Science Readibands (to help monitor sleep quality and quantity), MarcPro, and Normatec.

Last, but not least, we'll incorporate a regular educational components to educate the athletes on the "why" behind their training. Last year, this consisted of not only staff presentations, but also conference calls with Alan Jaeger, Noah Syndergaard, Steve Cishek, Brandon Kintzler, and Oliver Drake.

The best part is that it'll take place in a motivating environment where athletes can push each other to be the best they can be. By optimizing the situation, you can help change the person.

Interested in learning more? Email cspmass@gmail.com - but don't delay, as spaces are limited; this offering sold out last year, and we'll be capping the group size.

Keto Corn Dog Mini Muffins

Keto Corn Dog Mini Muffins are a delicious mouthful of low-carb goodness. Made with 7 ingredients total, you can whip these up for your Super Bowl parties, children’s birthdays, or even a low-carb Easter brunch. They’re super easy to make and an adorable appetizer or kid-friendly snack.

Keto Corn Dog Mini Muffins Recipe

The base of this easy low-carb snack recipe is almond flour. All you need to make it in addition to the almond flour is flaxmeal, eggs, vinegar, salt, baking soda, and hot dogs. Really, it’s that easy! This Keto Corn Dog Mini Muffin recipe is based on my beloved Low-Carb Cornbread recipe which has only 6 ingredients total!

Low-Carb Serving Suggestions

We like to serve these with mustard which is a great low-carb condiment. I stay away from store-bought ketchup since it often has added sugar, but it’s very easy to make your own low-carb ketchup. The boys like to eat these with Choloula sauce to add a spicy kick!

Keto Corn Dog Mini Muffins
    Servings20
    Ingredients
    Instructions
    1. In a food processor combine almond flour, flaxmeal, baking soda, and salt
    2. Pulse in vinegar and eggs
    3. Transfer batter 1 tablespoon at a time to a paper lined mini muffin pan
    4. Place one piece of hot dog into each muffin cup
    5. Bake at 350°F for 20-25 minutes
    6. Cool 15 minutes
    7. Serve

    Dairy-Free Keto Snack Recipe

It’s so hard to find good keto recipes that are dairy-free. But these Keto Corn Dog Mini Muffins are perfect if you’re on a low-carb, dairy-free diet. And although not all keto recipes are gluten-free and paleo, these are, because I made them. I’ve been on a gluten-free diet since 1998. I went on a grain-free diet in 2001 and it’s been so helpful, I’ve stuck with it ever since.

    More Low-Carb Snack Recipes

Here are more healthy gluten-free, low-carb snack recipes for you. I spend quite a bit of time developing my recipes so that they have as few ingredients as possible and work every time. All of my recipes are not just gluten-free, but grain-free too. I hope you love all of these low-carb snacks as much as we do!

    Another All-Too-Familiar Occurrence

On November 14, 2017, CNN reported the following concerning another police-involved shooting:

“As a community grieves and a family has few words, Wisconsin investigators say the 911 call that preceded the police shooting of a knife-wielding Native American teen was made by the teen himself.

“Ashland County Sheriff’s Deputy Brock Mrdjenovich fatally shot 14-year-old Jason Ike Pero last week after receiving a report that a male was walking down the street with a knife in Odanah, Wisconsin, about a 4-hour drive northeast of Minneapolis.
“Odanah hosts the administrative offices for the Bad River Band Of Lake Superior Tribe of Chippewa Indians, of which Jason was a member.
“‘Pero approached Deputy Mrdjenovich with a large butcher knife and he refused numerous commands to drop the weapon,’ said a report from the Wisconsin Department of Justice. ‘On two occasions, Pero lunged at the deputy while the deputy was attempting to retreat. Deputy Mrdjenovich fired his service weapon at Pero, striking him twice.’
“The middle-schooler was pronounced dead at Memorial Medical Center in Ashland…”
This past week, the District Attorney who investigated the death ruled that the behavior of the officer involved was “justified given the circumstances he [the officer] found himself in.”

Those of you who follow this blog know my thinking on these all-too-frequent police events. I have stressed the importance of police finding ways other than using deadly force to contain a person threatening with a sharp or blunt instrument. These are approximately 30% of the approximately 1,000 persons whose lives are taken by police officers each year.

You can hear what I have to say on this week’s interview with me concerning the use of deadly force in these instances.

To check out my interview go to Madison’s WORT Radio’s archive and click on “A Public Affair” for Monday, January 21.

    Charlatans In Digital Forensics

by James Zjalic There’s a topic that is rarely publicized in the world of digital forensics, but is well known to those within the field and stories are often traded between experts when they meet at conferences and conventions. That topic is charlatans. In my eyes, there are 3 types of charlatan: – The Innocent Charlatan: Those who do not have the required knowledge and/or skill, but have good intentions – The Dark-Side Charlatan: Those that do have the required knowledge and/or skill, but are happy to place the value of money over the value of science – The Nefarious Charlatan: A combination of the above, those who do not have the knowledge and/or skill and are only working within the field as a means to make as much money as possible. The Necessity Of Developing A Standard For Exchanging A Chain Of Custody Of Digi

by Jasmin Cosic, Miroslav Baca & Peter Grd Today there is no criminal investigation that does not contain a digital dimension. A large number of criminal offenses, whether official investigations conducted by judicial bodies or corporate investigations, contain digital evidence, which in most investigations is key to the identification of perpetrators. Since the cyber space is undefined – it has no owner, place, time dimension, it does not belong to anyone – very often such evidence must be exchanged between the various subjects involved in the investigation. However, in addition to the exchange of digital evidence, it is also necessary to exchange the so-called “5ws&1h data” or metadata that are key to chain of custody identification. This is necessary because of the large number of factors that can influence the evidence and undermine the integrity of digital evidence, after which the evidence will not be accepted by the court. The need for the standardization of metadata exchange procedures and processes that ensure the chain of custody has been imposed as a necessity and through the realization of DEMF, as a possible solution. Organization as Art

I know what you’re thinking. Is this a post about the art of organizing? Well, no it’s not. I want to share my thoughts with you on organization as art. Yes, organizing, and well-organized areas can look like a piece of art and provide the same joy that artwork does.

    The Beauty of Simplicity

I take aesthetic pleasure in so many of the spaces in my house. Whether it’s a well-organized drawer, spice cabinet, pantry, or an entire room, I love the peaceful serenity that an orderly space provides.

    Elana Pantry Jars

    Elana’s Pantry

The photo on the left is a quick snap of my pantry, the namesake of this website!

The jars in my pantry are full of herbs like dried ginger, licorice, and dandelion; spices such as cinnamon, star anise, and pepper; and assorted items including poppy seeds, dried orange peel, and whole stevia leaf.

I collected the jars over the years and it still amazes me that they were “free” and came with the food that was purchased in them. The jars shown on the left contained organic olives that my boys and I loved, but you could just as easily collect jars from almond butter or coconut oil. Anything that you use repeatedly will result in a full set when saved over a year or two!

    Elegant Simplicity

The photo to the left is of my mason jar cabinet. Those are jars I paid for. I keep an entire cabinet of empty mason jars at the ready for food storage, leftover containment, and organizing around the house.

This shot is of the gorgeously simple pulls on the cabinet. They feel great in my hands, are easy to use and elegant in their true simplicity.

The first thing people say when they walk in my kitchen is why so many mason jars?! Some people have a dark cabinet with tons of plastic storage containers that they have to rummage through several times a day. I have an orderly cabinet of mason jars at my fingertips for quick and easy use!

Check out my post called, 10 Reasons Glass is Better than Plastic, to learn more about healthy living and to get another glimpse into my well-organized kitchen!

    Elana Spice Drawer

    Simple Spice Grid

This photo is of my spice drawer. That’s right, I keep my spices in a drawer. This way I can see the top of all of the bottles, which is where I place the labels that identify the contents of each jar of spice.

I use a label maker as specified above to label the jars, but if you have neat handwriting it looks beautiful to hand letter them.

A friend of mine built this organizer, but you could probably turn it into a wonderful DIY project or ask your handyman to make you one.

I find the rhythmic simplicity of this grid that holds the spices so aesthetically satisfying. This drawer system works better than any other that I’ve tried over the years!

    Organizing As Art

    Baskets for Laundry Room Shelves

These beautiful, yet totally functional baskets are for the shelves in our laundry room. I bought them over a decade ago and found similar ones for you here. I label the baskets with a label maker and store a variety of items in them from compost bags to stain removal items and much more.

    My Kitchen

This shot is of my kitchen. If you look closely you can see that the kitchen counter is full of stuff! That’s the way a working kitchen looks.

The basic structures of the kitchen are incredibly simple and symmetrical. I find symmetry to be a wonderfully calming principle whether I’m designing a home (ours), or styling food for a photo shoot.

I think I have good taste, though I don’t know anyone who claims to have poor taste. I’m not sure if I was born with this or developed it in college taking Art History classes. I’ve loved styling our spaces and making them incredibly functional while visually soothing. I met Mr. Pantry in 1992, he has an amazing eye in terms of design and has taught me a lot over the years. His mother is a professional artist with works in the Metropolitan Museum. I’m incredibly lucky to be surrounded by these types of aesthetes.

    Organization as Art

So now you see that art is everywhere in your everyday surroundings. Keeping your home organized is not only functional but creates a thing of beauty. What’s your favorite organizational technique that leads to artful simplicity in your home? Leave a comment and let me know!

    Crime Prevention through Design

When Crime Prevention is More Than Public Service Announcements and Police Patrols.

[Our guest blogger today is Jessica Simonovis. She has a J.D. from Andres Bello Catholic University in Caracas, Venezuela; and an M.A. in  Applied Criminology from Middlesex University in the U.K. She has experience working in three countries, evaluating various projects and strategies. She and her husband currently reside in Englewood, Colorado.]

The Urban Peace Lab (UPL) is a Research Center oriented to reduce crime by applying the arts, a place for innovative designs that could serve as a crime deterrent. It also includes non-profit organizations focused in teaching practical knowledge about the arts and other creative means. Moreover, it serves as a resource to complete school credits as well as to become a productive member of our society.

Design Against Crime is a historical and current successful reference for this project. This London-based center promotes an approach to social innovation emerged at Central Saint Martins (CSM), University of the Arts London between 1999-2009. (http://www.designagainstcrime.com/)

Another reference for a similar idea is Design Out Crime, an initiative to inject the city of Los Angeles with Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design techniques to reduce crime. (http://www.lapdonline.org/crime_prevention/content_basic_view/8852 )

UPL is looking forward to partner up with the Art Institute of Denver, the American Institute of Graphic Arts, or any other art program. By doing so, the center will benefit with the student’s innovative ideas to, as well as reaching out to the Denver community by offering educational services and programs designed to nourish all the student body and institute, independently of their art major.

The university/program will benefit by promoting a variety of options for internship programs. It will be also a great opportunity to actively raise awareness about situational prevention and provide an alternative approach to repression or standard reactive law enforcement policies.

We strive to help the public by providing a variety of resources, skills, and experiences when students and experts will successfully create designs, shifting the strong dependency to law enforcement and the judicial system to daily preventive practices.

Implementing designs that are fit for purpose and contextually appropriate brings a new range of supporters as it is an excellent space for the students to complete their practical training as artists. I believe the Urban Peace Lab strengthens the bond between the art community and local residents, considering how imperative it is nowadays that developed nations can count on research institutes to address the many challenges their communities face.

ISO 17025 For Digital Forensics – Yay Or Nay

by Robert Merriott “Much of the digital forensic community desires to have their evidence seen in court as forensically sound and bulletproof, yet do not want to go through the rigors that other traditional forensic sciences have done to prevent evidence spoliation and other mishandling and misinterpretations.” ~ Josh Moulin, Deputy Chief Information Officer, US Federal Government, National As many forensic experts will already know, ISO 17025 is now the mandatory standard in the United Kingdom (UK) for all Digital Forensic laboratories as of October 2017. Any digital forensic laboratory in the UK which isn’t ISO 17025 certified will be required to declare itself as “non-compliant” on each issued report. Read More

Seminar Announcement: In-Season Training Strategies for Baseball

We're excited to announce that on March 4, 2018, Christian Wonders and John O’Neil will be delivering a one-day seminar, “In-Season Training Strategies for Baseball.” This event, which will take place at our Hudson, MA location, is a great chance for baseball coaches to learn about the training process and how communication between a strength coach and a sport coach can help take performance to the next level. Both Christian and John have experience working as on-field baseball coaches and as strength coaches, and they’ve used their ability to speak a common language with great success. It’s also a valuable event for strength and conditioning professionals to learn more about integrating performance training and skill development.

This one-day seminar combines pitching and training information and how to optimally blend the two during the in-season period. The goal is to preserve – and build upon – the athleticism that was built in the off-season while ensuring that players are fresh for the quality work that must take place in practices and games.

Split into both a lecture and practical format, the event will provide attendees with detailed information on both the pitching and training ends, including multiple practical portions that will cover drill work, a bullpen, and technique demonstrations on valuable exercises geared with the idea of not only healthy but also increasing performance.

Additionally, Christian and John will cover how to structure in-between start routines built around both training and throwing, and how such a routine could be individualized and changed throughout the season. Every room in the house should be decorated according to its function and with the right decorating designs as well. Architectural designers have come up with different methods of improving a home to attain the modern and classic look, and these inventions include how to make a bathroom stand out just like the rest of the house. There are different ideas that one can use in designing the bathroom, but the most important thing to consider is its size. The space or scope of the bathroom helps you determine the kind of fixtures to incorporate and the best designs as well.

    Elegant Bathroom Designs.

    The Material

Now homeowners have discovered the excellent ways of building easy to clean bathrooms with the use of marble, granite, and porcelain. These three materials are soft to touch and come in different colors that give your bathroom a modern and elegant look. It is easy to maintain the elements regarding cleaning since they only require you to wipe them with a cloth.Another area to focus on when selecting the material is the floor. The bathroom floor tends to get water all the time when people are taking showers or even when cleaning the surfaces. Therefore, instead of investing in the old design of adding carpets on the floor, now people are adding tiles. Also instead of using fabric curtains, you can use opaque glass doors which are comfortable to maintain and does not get attacked by mildew or mold.

    The Colors

The colors are other excellent designs to consider when it comes to modeling a bathroom. When it comes to small and large bathroom renovations, the colors that you use to determine how the bathroom would appear. For example, there are some colors such as white, beige and cream that cause the bathroom to look more prominent. Also, neutral colors are easy to maintain and go well with any bathroom. If these colors seem to be a bit dull to you, you can add some boldness on other fixtures in the bathroom such as the bathtub, the faucets and also the lightings.

    The Fixtures

Add your own taste of fixtures when designing a bathroom. There are different designs of bathroom fixtures such as the bathtub, the sinks, shower heads and also you can add some style when choosing the kind of lighting to use in the bathroom. For example, you can use chandelier lighting in the middle part of the ceiling.

    Lighting

Lighting is another excellent design that a lot of people are focusing on. Your bathroom requires enough illumination just like the rest of the house, and therefore, there should be good lighting. For homeowners, this design can help you attract a lot of potential buyers mainly when you use unique and bright bathroom lighting fixtures. Some of the ideas to add when designing the bathroom lighting include the kind of light to use; maybe you can use crystal chandelier and also consider using other bold colored like led bulbs.

    Conclusion

Let your bathroom pop up with the use of the above designing ideas. Make sure you work with an experienced designer so they can help you regarding how to put in place the different designs. Also, use other ideas like adding portraits on the walls of the bathroom if space allows you would be awesome.

    3 Minimalist Bathroom Design Ideas

Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com

There’s no need to spend tons of money on a spa retreat if you have a minimalist bathroom that is just as comforting. You can easily achieve this look by doing the following tips:

Photo by Jared Rice on Unsplash

    Don’t store too many things
Just because you have the extra storage space, doesn’t mean you need to fill it completely. Keeping empty space empty and only using what you really need is essential to achieving minimalism in the bathroom. Source: Contemporist

    Go for a consolidated look
‘Try to unify the space with one colour or material to achieve a clean and unified look,’ says Straughan. ‘Matte grey tiles would be the perfect base to let your other fittings pop, in particular oversized tiles are a super fashionable choice. Other materials like marble, wood or polished concrete will also achieve that clean look as long as the style isn’t too flashy.’ Source: HouseBeautiful

Don’t be afraid to display a few essentials
A lacquered tray filled with jewelry, perfume bottles and soaps. A trio of vases displaying flowers in pastel tones. A countertop display of grooming products, such as hair gel, deodorant and face wash. These are NOT the type of features you will find in a minimalist bathroom. Not that there’s anything wrong with them! But no-fuss spaces keep the bulk of the grooming products and cushy details hidden, instead choosing to highlight a few key pieces. Like a clear vase filled with one or two blooms, or lotion displayed in a crystalline canister. Source: Decoist
